My AI Tab Is Still Open

I keep learning, experimenting and moving forward. So why does every new AI tool make me feel like I’m falling behind?

18 September 2026

Some of my open tabs have a pretty professional explanation: I work with SAP.

And lately, all I have to do is start studying something to find artificial intelligence along the way.

There’s Joule, tools, integrations and new possibilities to explore in the SAP world. Beyond it, there are other platforms, other models, other certifications. My company is paying for an Anthropic certification, and I want to make the most of that opportunity too.

There’s no shortage of things to study.

I’ve worked with SAP for many years, and along the way I’ve learned different things: HR processes and their legal requirements across different countries, SAP HCM, SuccessFactors, integrations, BTP, SAP Build and, more recently, development with AI.

That helps me connect some dots, but it also makes me realise how much I still want to understand.

Maybe that’s why I find it so strange to feel like I’m falling behind. When I stop and look at what I’ve been doing, I can see that I’m moving forward. With so much new stuff around, I don’t always notice it.

It seems like everyone is building something with AI. An agent, an automation, a product, a solution that promises to change everything. I see it and think: do I need to learn this too?

One more tab.

Sometimes, looking in from the outside, I also struggle to understand what all these new things are actually doing in practice. I see announcements, demos, promises. I’m curious about what happened next: did it work? Is anyone using it? What did it help with?

Those are questions I want to ask about my own projects too.

And I like learning. That’s an important part of the story — because not all these tabs are open out of obligation. Some are open because I genuinely want to know what’s there.

The hard part is deciding which one deserves my attention right now.

Do I keep studying what makes sense for my work? Make the most of the certification my company is offering? Try a new tool? Or use what I’ve already learned to build something of my own?

I want to create personal projects too. A bot to track ETFs and other market information, for example. Something to help me monitor topics I currently check in several different places.

And when I start thinking about how to build it, more questions come up. Which tool should I use? How do I get the data? What’s worth automating?

There we go. Even the project that could help me close a few tabs starts by opening more.

I think part of my difficulty lies there: there are lots of interesting paths, and several of them connect. Choosing one means leaving the others waiting for a while.

I’m still learning how to do that.

For now, my AI tab is still open. There are things I want to understand and ideas I want to test. But I’d like to move more often from “I could do this” to “I did this, and here’s how it worked.”

Maybe one of the next posts here will be about that bot.

First, I need to choose where to start.

And you: how do you decide what to learn when everything seems important at the same time?

Keep the conversation open.
